A lot of people can pick out a song that best describes them. Lyrics that strike a cord within and simply defines who they are in one neat little melody.

Me? I don't have one song, I have many, but the songs that I think about when I think of myself is.. Alanis Morissette's
I'm a bitch' and Pam Tillis ' Mi Vida Loca'

the price of soft smooth skin

Tonight I did one of my favorite things. Took a nice cleansing Detox bath.

Hot as you can stand it waster
Epsom salt
Ground Ginger
Eucalyptus

No specific amounts do I use, I just toss it all in and stir it up.

Next I slide in with a good book, the curtains on the tub closed and sweat it out.

In addition I made my silky smooth legs and blemish free face mask.

Sugar
Honey
Extra virgin Olive Oil
Lemon Juice

Again no specific amount, experiment with what works for you.

I slathered my face and gave it a gentle massage with the Sugar potion and let it sit til it flaked off while I read a good murder mystery. I then used the mini sprayer in the tub to spray off my face, gentle blot it dry and continue with the sweat session.

As soon as I felt ready to get out I smeared the sugar scrub on my legs and shaved.

Now here is how you know the detox was working. When I shaved my legs with the sugar scrub on them.. what came off was BLACK.. TAR black.. it was So gross! I smeared my legs with the scrub and kept on shaving until what was being scraped off was clear.

It was SO gross, but at the same time it was so gratifying to know that I was nice and relaxed, hair free, face smooth and detoxed.

I will sleep well tonight!

In the kitchen with Kandie

It is a busy busy night tonight, getting ready for the week ahead.

I made a beautiful granola breakfast bake

Granola Breakfast Bake
Total Time: 50 minutes
Serves: 6

Ingredients
2 cups rolled oats
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup frozen mixed berries (Or any kind of berries you like)
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
3 cups (or 2 if you don’t want it too moist)  vanilla unsweetened almond milk
1 large egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ripe banana, peeled, 1/2-inch slices

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F and pour a little bit of Olive oil into the pan and spread the love around.

In a large bowl, mix together the oats, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, half the walnuts, half the strawberries and half the chocolate. (Save the other half of strawberries, walnuts and chocolate for the top of the oatmeal).
In another large bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, butter and vanilla extract.

Add the oat mixture to prepared baking dish. Arrange the remaining strawberries, walnuts and chocolate on top. Add the banana slices to the top then pour the milk mixture over everything. Gently shake the baking dish to help the milk mixture go throughout the oats.

Bake 45 - 60  minutes or until the top is nicely golden brown and the milk mixture has set.

Next up in the kitchen is Artisan Bread

Artisan Bread
3 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon yeast
1 1/2 cups water
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt and yeast.  Add water and mix until a shaggy mixture forms.  Cover bowl with plastic wrap and set aside for 12 - 18 hours.  Overnight works great.  Heat oven to 450 degrees.  When the oven has reached 450 degrees place a cast iron pot with a lid in the oven and heat the pot for 30 minutes.  Meanwhile, pour dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball.  Cover with plastic wrap and let set while the pot is heating.  Remove hot pot from the oven and drop in the dough.  Cover and return to oven for 30 minutes.  After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake an additional 15 minutes.  Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack to cool.

Right now we are transitioning from Propane to Electric so I did a little web search to see if I could do this in my crock pot since the break won’t fit in my toaster oven (btw Crockpots cook at 300 F on high)
As I went to get my crock pot out I found my Roaster! HURRAY.. So tomorrow the bread will be cooked in my roaster!

Next on the list was a wonderful sandwich that I made the Hubbster for lunch tomorrow.

2 slices of whole grain store bought bread
(1 slice) slathered in Mayo
(1 slice) a few passes of mustard
3 slices of pepper turkey breast
3 slices of honey ham
3 slices of smoked mozzarella
2 slices off a big ol tomato
1 smell sweet pepper
Mixed arugula salad to top it off.

Tomorrow I will be throwing some dinner into the Crock Pot

CROCKPOT TENDERLOIN

1 cup pineapple juice

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/3 cup light soy sauce

1 pork tenderloins.

Cook on low 6-8 hrs and they should just fall apart.

HALLOWEEN

Halloween is coming! and that means Jack o’lanterns!

You know you work hard on those Jack O’lanterns only to watch them wither up, shrivel up and ruin your design.  So here are a few things you can do to keep that from happening!

1) - Use Vaseline on the exposed parts of your pumpkin! The jelly helps seal in moisture and keeps it from drying out! Now your pumpkin won’t shrivel up!

2) Don’t cut a hole in the top of your pumpkin, cut out the back, or even the bottom. This makes inserting your lighting choice easier and it keeps your pumpkin looking perfect.

3) Instead of candles.. use.. GLOW STICKS! Glow sticks last for many many hours and come in so many colors you can really make your design stand out! Carve a set of eyes and place a red glow stick and hide the pumpkin in the bushes, that will really freak out your trick or treaters!

4) If you do use a candle, go buy one of those glade scented candles that smell like pumpkin pie or some other yummy halloweeny treat. Your pumpkins will smell heavenly!

5) If you really like the flickering of a real candle, you can by a flameless flickering candle to put in your pumpkin. You give it some color you can put some transparent cellophane over the top of the candle and hot glue it on. Since the candle doesn’t heat up there is no fear of it melting or catching on fire!

Another fun thing you can do that doesn’t involve a pumpkin for your Halloween decorations. TOILET PAPER ROLLS or PAPER TOWEL ROLLS.. empty ones!

Cut out all different sorts of eyes, paint the rolls black and put a glow stick inside and hide them everywhere (So they can be seen though) and you get that eerie spooky feeling of being watched. Put them on your window sills, in a tree, in the bushes, in the flower garden. Prop up a rock and put them under the rock. So many fun things you can do  to spook up your yard for 99 cents!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

New Mexico has many beautiful State parks and National Monuments. Many of them are in out of reach places that the typical tourist doesn’t get a chance to get too or even know about.

Many of them hold gorgeous views, wild horses, elusive wild life and even rare or threatened wild life. A lot of the vistas can be seen on long treks through the wilderness either by horseback or walking.

Many have bike and ATV trails. There are some that you can get to by car but are off the beaten path.

A lot of our State parks have been threatened by wildfires, have been burned by wild fires and struggle to grow and once again become beautiful and thriving. It will be hundreds of years before those places are thriving and beautiful and show no more scars of natures destructive side.

I want to bring the beauty of New Mexico to the world, to everyone, to let them all see and admire what New Mexico has. From the Alpine slopes of Northern New Mexico to the desert vastness of Southern New Mexico and everywhere in between.

My goal is to capture the beauty of New Mexico and it’s State and National Monuments, parks and forests in timeless, ageless photographs and create an awe inspiring book that will let everyone in the world experience New Mexico.

Every photograph will feature a bit of history, a tidbit or story about the area that is interesting. I want to create a full and rich archive of New Mexico.

Window Washers

The Window Washers are washing the windows this week (lots of w’s in there) I had the pleasure of seeing them when they dropped in on my office window just as I was heading out to the Movie that is being filmed two blocks from my office.

See them there.. that window they are cleaning is my office window. (The one jutting out on the right hand side is the conference room)

This is the view from my window..

And this is the view of where they are filming the movie. (On that first bridge)

CARBS - ARGH RAWR GRRRR

I don’t know if you now this.. but being on a low carb diet is total suckage! I am trying to keep my carb load between 100 - 150 per day and keep my calorie intake at 1400 - 1440. Let  me tell you what.. that is HARD to do! I eat healthy, yogurt, fruits, lean meats and lots of veggies, but those carbs can hide in sneaky places!

Like a Banana - 28 carbs
1 cup of grapes - 22 carbs
A small container of yogurt - 26 carbs (And I had two of these for 72 carbs!)

There is my carb intake for the day already! I can’t eat anything more expect food items that have no carbs. Alas, I have taken in 225 carbs for the day already! (Though this could be wrong, but I need to figure out how many servings is in the cashew chicken I made and that could bring down the carb count significantly.)

so what can I do to remedy this situation? Go and dance my fool ass off at Zumba tonight that’s what and for dinner, just have some nice chicken breast.
